Very popular with day trippers this delightful village with its cobbled streets which are abound with little alcoves and interesting local shops is a must to visit. Frigiliana is an enchanting Moorish village full of history nestling in the mountains just 4 miles inland from Nerja. With a backdrop of dramatic mountains and views down to the sea, the surrounding countryside and valleys provide a welcome contrast to the coastal bustle. There are some very good inexpensive resturants and breathtaking views from the 'El Jardin' bar at the top of the village. Ceramic tiles throughout the village tell the tale of the valiant fight against Felipe II's troops during the rebellion in 1569. Frigiliana has some good quality craft shops and a traditional market every Thursday. They also make their own sweet wine often served with cake, well worth a try. Frigiliana is a 5 minute drive inland from the coast of Nerja. Sub-tropical fruits and vegetables are grown in Frigiliana, as well as olives and grapes for the excellent, sweet dry wines of the region. Frigiliana is perhaps the best-preserved Moorish settlement in the entire province and has received several prizes for its beauty and conservation. Because of this Frigiliana is one of the most visited villages in all of Spain. Frigiliana is an ideal village for a holiday home or permanent living. |
